John Lidzey MSCD FRSA

John Lidzey, After attending part time Camberwell and Hornsey Schools of Art during the 1960's he became a graphic designer working for numerous London advertising agencies, studios and design groups. In the late 1960's he began teaching at Camberwell School of Art.

When not teaching he systematically worked on his own personal approach to watercolours. Later he moved to Southwark College, in 1987 he left art education to devote his energies entirely to painting.

John Lidzey has exhibited at many London Galleries including The Bankside and Mall Galleries, The Medici Gallery, The Thackery Gallery, The Barbican, The Royal Festival Hall (The Spirit of London Exhibition), The Heifer Gallery, The Linda Blackstone Gallery and also at The John Russel Gallery in Ipswitch and The Burford Gallery in Burford, Oxfordshire. In 1990 he won the Daler/Rowney prize at the RWS Annual open exhibition. In 1992 he was a prizewinner in the Singer Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.

John's book Watercolour Workshop by Harper Collins was launched in London at The Linda Blackstone Gallery. This book contains over 200 of his paintings with text which explains many of the methods which he uses to achieve his results. He has also recently published Paint Light in Watercolour also by Harper Collins.

His work is featured in many other books on watercolour, including Encyclopaedia of Watercolour Techniques, Sketching, Weather, How to See it, How to Paint it, Watercolour step by step, Collins Complete Drawing Course. John also contributes regularly to major art magazines. He has made a video on Watercolour techniques and has just worked on another video on the subject of painting light in watercolour.

John Lidzey's free flowing, loose watercolour technique are admired for their spontaneity and richness of colour throughout the world.

He is a member of the Chartered Society of Designers and is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts.
